The contraction of the lateral bundle of the skin muscle pulls the sagging cheek tissues downwards. Over time, the resting tone increases, the lateral platysma shortens and no longer forms the cervico-mandibular support angle, which causes the submaxillary gland to descend. The oval of the face is therefore altered with the appearance of jowls.

The botulinum toxin can be used in the beautification of the lips, either in the treatment of the perioral wrinkles, the “barcode” lines or the gummy smile. The “barcode” wrinkles:

The gingival smile or “Gummy smile” is defined by the exposure of more than 3mm of the gum when a person smiles, giving a less aesthetic smile (Fernandel’s smile). It is found in 10% of the population under 30 years old and 2 times more in women. The causes can be linked to bone, dental, or muscular reasons. The toxin can act on the hypercontractibility of the perioral muscles, allowing the lip to descend temporarily to cover the upper gencive.

The treatment consists of first delimiting the sweating zone and then injecting the botulinum toxin in small quantities at perfectly identified points. Then just a few injections that are not very painful and very well tolerated. We can also note an impact on the patient’s quality of life, which is quite significant.

Botox treatment for excessive sweating can also be applied to other areas of the body such as the hands, feet, back, etc.
